The world could be “sleepwalking into a major disaster … even a nuclear war,” the World Health Organization’s chief said at a Wednesday press briefing.
“You could imagine what could happen in the future,” WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, referencing Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, held by Russian troops. Ukrainian workers are continuing to do their jobs at the plant under the barrels of Russian guns to ensure a Chernobyl-type disaster doesn’t occur, Reuters reported Tuesday.
“We hear now about the incidences in the nuclear reactor,” Ghebreyesus said. “My fear is that we are sleepwalking into even a nuclear war. That’s dangerous. It’s the mother of all problems.”
