The tax man comes for everyone—even the President.

Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden had a federal tax bill of $146,629 for 2023, the White House announced in a statement Monday. Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff paid $88,570 in federal taxes.

“President Biden believes that all occupants of the Oval Office should be open and honest with the American people,” the White House said in a statement on Monday, “and that the longstanding tradition of annually releasing presidential tax returns should continue unbroken.”

That statement, of course, was a swipe at Donald Trump, who declined to voluntarily release his tax returns while in office.

The Bidens made $619,976 last year, with the majority of that coming from the President’s $400,000 salary, a figure that’s mandated by Congress. Dr. Biden earned $85,985 from her teaching position at Northern Virginia Community College. They had a federal tax rate of 23.7%.

Harris and Emhoff made $450,299 and were in the 19.7% tax bracket.

When it came to state taxes, the Bidens paid $30,908 to Delaware as well as $3,549 to Virginia by Dr. Biden. The Vice President and Second Husband also paid $11,599 to California, while Emhoff paid $11,599 in District of Columbia income tax.

Both the President and Vice President made substantial charitable donations. The Bidens reported $20,477 in contributions to 17 different charities, with the largest going to the Beau Biden Foundation. Harris and Emhoff contributed $23,026 to charities.

Biden has shared 26 years worth of tax returns to date. His income has fluctuated in that time, but 2023 was a good year for the Bidens, with an additional $40,462 in income, compared to 2022. Harris and Emhoff made slightly less in 2023 than they did the year prior.
