X CEO Yaccarino Defends Musk’ “Go F@ck Yourselves” Statement

“What this advertising boycott is going to do is it’s going to kill the company,” he said.

This statement will have added more pressure to Yaccarino, pointed out S4 Capital chief executive Martin Sorrell. Yaccarino faced calls from advertisers earlier this month to step down from X only months after joining, leaving her post at NBCUniversal where she held strong relationships with the ad community.

In response to Musk’s comments, David Wilding, Twitter’s former U.K. director of planning, said on LinkedIn: “At Twitter, we’d quite often end presentations to advertisers by saying something along the lines of ‘thank you for your support, we really appreciate it and we don’t take it for granted.’ There wasn’t a way of saying it without sounding insincere but we really did mean it. This is an alternative approach to that. Who’s to say which is more effective?”
